It's been awhile...this will be long.

Blogging takes FOREVER. Also, I have barely made any photos that I thought were worth sharing. Just been in a photo funk, even though I live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. I'm terrible at multitasking, and I think because I've been so focused on my job, I've made no space for any extra creativity. And when I travel back to the South to see all the people I love most, I'm torn between wanting to make beautiful images of my friends' perfect children (and Ben & Sam) and wanting to JUST BE with them. I always feel rushed to make the best photos ever because I love my friends and I never get to see them, and I only find a few images I am really in love with. Don't get me wrong, I'm over the moon when anyone asks me to capture important things in their lives--making photos is the most heartfelt gift I can give, and I love that I am able do that for the ones I love.

Also these days I am completely obsessed with looking at other artists' photos and feeling incompetent. HOWEVER, when someone asks me to make photos because they like my work--and I say yes--I. Just. Love. It. Thankfully, one of my favorite families (and friends) asked me to do some family photos as a surprise for Father's Day, and I am so excited to share these.

Here are the Barrys, y'all. They are always making each other laugh, they are so easy to be around, and they are constantly giving, giving, giving. I just hope that these photos show how beautiful they are inside and out. I LOVE THESE HUMANS SO MUCH. Thank you, Barrys--I love being with y'all.

You've probably seen a few of these folks in my photos before--they are one of my favorite families. Jessica and I have been friends since middle school; we went to camp together, played volleyball together, and has been a dear, dear friend for a very long time. She's also Gwinn's aunt! Ben has been the best addition to this family--we love him so much, and I could not be happier that these two have found each other. They are kind to everyone, hilarious together, and so easy to be around. It is immediately apparent that they are grateful to have each other, and I am so honored to be their friend and photographer.

Here are Chelsea and Aubrey! They got married in May, and their wedding was a perfect reflection of who they are: beautiful, loving, welcoming, hilarious, and FUNNNN. I love them and their fantastic faces, and I hope you do, too! Chelsea and Aubrey, thank you for asking me to do this--it was so special to be a part of the first day of your marriage. Love y'all!

Little Guys

by Ellen Coleman

Here are my most recent photos of Ben and Sam. They might be my favorite ones ever. I realize I probably say that about every set of photos of them, but I can't help that they get cuter and cuter all the time. These two are completely different from each other, except Sam wants to do everything single thing Ben does. Ben is very good at showing him how to be hilarious and sweet. They are quite the pair, and I love them more and more every day. Also before you ask; yes, these people are actually related to me, and no, they're not models. It's an easy mistake to make. They look like those people who are in the photos of the picture frames you buy at the store. They are just beautiful.

I can't believe it's been TWO YEARS since this little munchkin became a part of the world.

This is Gwinn. She belongs to my friends Heather and Ed, and I am lucky enough to be her godmother. This little stinker is SMART and sweet and so funny all the time. She likes to shake her booty, make faces, wear dresses and her pink tights, and talk talk talk. She loves her doggie Alice, her mom and dad, her family, and her friends. She was SO good in front of the camera, too. I love this girl to the moon and back--she is one of a kind.

Katherine & Mike

by Ellen Coleman

I'm so excited to post these! For this wedding, I was a bridesmaid AND the photographer. I love a good challenge, and I was honored that Katherine wanted me to do both. Katherine is one of my dearest friends from college... a mutual friend kept hounding each of us separately to find each other once we got to college because she knew we would be fast friends. She was right; I feel weird when I think of a time when Katherine and I weren't friends. She has the quickest wit of anyone I know, kindness explodes out of her, and although it's hard to imagine, I'm at my weirdest when we are together. We've been through a lot together, and her immense happiness is of utmost importance to me. When she met Mike at seminary, and I heard her talk about him, I knew (because of her immense happiness) that he was it. And then when I finally got to meet him, I could see why-- they complement each other perfectly. Mike is smart, deep, and kind, and is a very special human to keep up with Katherine. Not only does he keep up, he challenges her and they make each other better. I'm thrilled to have a new friend in Mike, and I know that they make a great team for life. Anyway, here are the photos, and I would like to say thanks to Jeremy, Hannah, Aunt Debbie, and Katie for wielding Mark3 when I had to jump around to the other side.

Let's Elope!

by Ellen Coleman

A couple of weeks ago I was honored with the opportunity to shoot an elopement, which is something I've always hoped I would get to do. It was a perfect day with all the best gold light at the Memphis Botanic Garden, and tears were streaming down my face during the sweetest ceremony, which lasted all of 12 minutes. These two people love each other dearly, and intend to take care of each other, be kind to each other, and support each other. These feelings were tangible as soon as I met them, and I wish them all the best in their new life together! Also: they are BEAUTIFUL.

My favorite faces...

by Ellen Coleman

Anyone who knows me knows that my nephews, Ben (3) and Sam (21 months) are the light of my life. The bigger they get, the funnier they become. And holy cow, THEIR EYES. All of these photos are SOOTC (straight out of the camera) and I couldn't believe how clear and blue their eyes were when I uploaded them. They are the sweetest, most ridiculous, and silliest little guys. And they love each other (and like to squish each other). This was the first time that Ben really hammed it up for me, and Claire and I about died from laughter. He's SO funny. I love how these guys have their own personalities. They are a couple of weirdos, and I can't get enough of them. My favorite photo is Sam smiling for Ben and his Woody camera. Be still my heart. Golly, they're beautiful humans.

Boys at the Beach

by Ellen Coleman

A few weeks ago, I got to go to the beach with Claire, Craig, Ben, and Sam. We had a whole lot of fun playing in the sand and the waves and swimming in the pool. These guys are scared of nothing. And golly, they get more beautiful by the second. Good thing they travel with a photographer.
